Sony VAIO / Project Shiphunt
Having successfully set our sights to space, Sony wanted to revisit our “Project” series. And, naturally, we had no where to go but down – to the depths of Lake Huron’s Thunder Bay in search of undiscovered shipwrecks. For a month, we traveled to the struggling town of Saginaw, Michigan to see if we could harness the power of an ad campaign to not only educate, but inspire a community as well.
At the start of the new school year, the hour-long documentary premiered in primetime during Current TV’s month long 50 Documentaries You Need to See Before You Die series.
Not content to just let our students have all the fun, we set about bringing the shiphunting experience to the masses. Using Google Earth’s open API, we developed a game that allowed users to explore the oceans in search of shipwrecks and gave them the opportunity to walk away with real treasure discovered deep in the virtual seas.
